The aim is to immediately scrutinize the details of the construction of the new Senate building at Chino Roces Extension Barangay Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

"This initiative aims to eliminate delays that could result in unnecessary costs or complicate cost-related matters," stated Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, chairman of the Senate Committee on Accounts. He added that they aim to conduct a fair review of the Senate building construction.

"Consequently, we have formally requested Secretary Manuel Bonoan to submit these documents no later than Monday, July 1, 2024. This timeline allows committee members adequate time to review the materials thoroughly ahead of Wednesday's hearing," according to his statement.

The Department of Public Works and Highways has provided the documents requested by Cayetano for the hearing.

Meanwhile, Senator Nancy Binay, former chairperson of the Senate Committee on Accounts, pointed out that the documents Cayetano is requesting are already in the Senate building, and Cayetano should have access to these documents.

However, Binay said there was no proper turn-over from her committee to Cayetano because, she claims, the senator has not spoken to her.

"He didn't ask me, so I'm also waiting because there are other data in the cloud. So, on my end, I also need to know who we will give access to the cloud or those kinds of documents. And so far, there doesn't seem to be that kind of transition and turnover because we're back to him not speaking to me," Binay stated.

According to Binay, she will just monitor what will happen at the hearing since she found out she is no longer on the Senate Committee on Accounts.
