Typhoon Carina intensified, prompting the elevation of warning to Signal Number 2 in Batanes yesterday, July 23, 2024.

Several places in Luzon were placed under an orange rainfall warning while Western Visayas was put under a yellow rainfall warning due to the ongoing onslaught of Typhoon Carina, along with the intensified southwest monsoon or habagat.

Several areas in Metro Manila and nearby provinces were flooded after receiving 15 to 30 millimeters of rain, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

In a report from PAGASA at 8:00 PM last Tuesday, an orange warning was raised over Metro Manila, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Mindoro. Flooding and landslides are warned in these areas.

A yellow warning was raised in Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Zambales, and Quezon (San Antonio, Tiaong, Dolores, Lucban, Tayabas, Lucena, Sariaya, Candelaria, Pagbilao), Guimaras, Iloilo, Antique, and Aklan, and PAGASA mentioned that flooding could also be expected in low-lying areas.

Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, and some parts of Quezon experienced light to moderate rain. The public is advised to contact the following numbers if help is needed or to report any storm-related incidents in their area: (02) 8927-1335 and 8927-2877 or visit PAGASA's website at http://pagasa.dost.gov.ph.

Carina was last spotted 335 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes in the latest PAGASA report at 11:00 PM last night. It is moving at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour, carrying winds of 150 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 185 kilometers per hour.

Rain is expected to continue until Thursday, particularly in the western part of Luzon.

Typhoon Carina is expected to exit the country by Wednesday night or Thursday morning (July 25, 2024) and make landfall in southeastern China after crossing the Taiwan Strait.
