Signal Number 5 has been raised in the northern and eastern parts of Batanes, specifically in Itbayat and Basco, due to intense winds brought by Super Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong Rey).
Batanes is currently experiencing violent weather conditions as Super Typhoon Leon is approximately 140 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes (20.5°N, 123.3°E), according to the latest report from PAGASA last night at 11:00 PM, October 30, 2024.
Super Typhoon Leon carries winds reaching 185 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 230 kilometers per hour.
The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour.
Its extremely strong winds cover 600 kilometers from the center.
Currently, Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal 5 is raised over Itbayat and Basco, Batanes.
Signal number 4 is raised over other parts of Batanes.
Signal number 3 is raised over the eastern part of Babuyan Island including Camiguin Island and Calayan Island, as well as in the northeastern part of mainland Cagayan or in Santa Ana.
Signal number 2 is raised over other parts of Babuyan Islands, the remaining part of mainland Cagayan, northern part of Isabela and certain areas of Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, and Ilocos Norte.
Signal number 1 is raised over remaining areas of Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, northern and central parts of Pangasinan and northern and eastern parts of Nueva Ecija, and northern and central parts of Aurora.
Super Typhoon Leon is expected to move northwest over the Philippine Sea until it makes landfall on the eastern coast of Taiwan by the afternoon of October 31.
It will then head towards the East China Sea after crossing Taiwan and will leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Thursday night or Friday morning.
There is a possibility of it making landfall in China.
There is also a possibility of it making landfall in Batanes.
