The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved a provisional P1 fare increase to aid drivers and operators of both modern and traditional jeepneys in light of continuously rising oil product prices.
From the former P12 minimum fare for traditional jeepneys, it will now be P13. Meanwhile, the fare for modern jeepneys, which was originally P14, will be raised to P15.
LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz stated that the fare increase is only temporary as oil product prices, especially crude oil used in jeepneys, continue to rise.
The LTFRB is still studying the petition from transport groups to raise the minimum fare to P5 and to add P1 for each subsequent kilometer.
According to the LTFRB, there is no need to issue a fare matrix because the fare increase is only temporary.
"As of now, only their provisional remedy is being recognized to address the 11 increases in the prices of gasoline since the start of the year," according to Guadiz.
