Santa Ana and Gonzaga, Cagayan have been upgraded to Signal Number 5 as Typhoon Ofel intensifies into a super typhoon.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Cagayan Valley Region is the intended target of Typhoon Ofel, carrying wind speeds of 185 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 230 kilometers per hour, and with a central pressure of 935 hPa.

The eye of Typhoon Ofel is located over the coastal waters of Divilacan, Isabela (17.5°N, 122.7°E). The typhoon is moving west northwest at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. Its area of intense winds extends 320 kilometers from the center.

Typhoon Ofel is expected to make landfall this afternoon, particularly on the eastern coast of Cagayan. It is likely to reemerge in the Babuyan Channel later tonight while making another landfall or passing very close to the Babuyan Islands.

The typhoon is expected to shift its direction to the north northwest and then to the northeast over the sea of Batanes (west of it) by November 15, 2024. It is then expected to move over the Taiwan Sea by November 16 before heading towards the Ryukyu Islands.
