A video of Police Trainee August David Jr. quickly went viral, showing him jumping off the high bridge into the Taytay river and pulling the young girl who was on the brink of drowning to safety.
At the time, the 26-year-old officer was riding a jeep passing over the Barkadahan Bridge when he spotted the commotion caused by the sight of the girl floating in the river.
David immediately got off the passenger jeep, took off his shoes, and jumped into the river to rescue the teenager.
The girl was swiftly brought to Taytay Emergency Hospital and is now reported to be in a stable condition.
It was learned that David is currently undergoing training at the Valenzuela Police Station and resides in Barangay Katuparan, Taguig City.
Col. Salvador Destura Jr., the chief of Valenzuela City Police, praised David's immediate action, not hesitating even though the situation was perilous.
"I am extremely proud of the bravery and compassion shown by our police trainee August David Jr. His action shows that police work is not only about arresting (people)," stated Destura.
