Senior citizens from EMBO (Enlisted Men's Barrios) barangays are among those who can benefit from the services and facilities offered at the Taguig Center for the Elderly.
The city government of Taguig, through the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs (OSCA), opened the Center for the Elderly on Ipil Street, North Signal Village, to EMBO senior citizens starting October 9.
One hundred senior citizens from Barangay Pembo were pleased with the services and facilities of the five-story center for the elderly.
In addition to touring the facility, they also enjoyed free sauna and massage services, foot spas, movies, and complimentary cold drinks.
As part of Taguig City Government's mission to be Transformative, Lively, and Caring, they offer this facility to the elderly to allow them to relax and recharge.
Beyond the services experienced by the senior citizens of Barangay Pembo, the Taguig Center for the Elderly also has a therapy pool, clinic, multipurpose hall or recreational area, and a rooftop garden.
The facility also houses the Taguig Geriatric Program, in which the city government of Taguig partners with St. Luke's Medical Center to provide free consultations with medical professionals.
Memory, vision, and hearing tests for the elderly are available every Tuesday, while lectures on depression, dementia, osteoporosis, and diet are conducted every Thursday.
One of those delighted by the first free senior facility is Barangay Pembo resident Bienvenido C. Gonzalez Jr., 66 years old.
"The facilities are excellent. The assistants are also good. It's really a leisure activity for seniors, so thank you very much. We hope more seniors will visit. My companions and I who came here are grateful to the city government of Taguig. We know you prioritize the elderly, so thank you for providing an opportunity for gatherings like this that even relaxes your mind," said Gonzalez.
Felicidad Paloma, a 74-year-old resident of Barangay Pembo, said her trip to the Center for the Elderly was well worth it.
"The massage was very good, my back pain is gone. My foot pain also disappeared. If there's a chance, I will keep coming back here. I recommend seniors to watch movies here and have fun, not just stay at home," said Paloma.
Other EMBO barangay senior citizens will also be taken to the Center for the Elderly by the Taguig City government in the coming days.
