Circumcision, a common procedure involving the removal of the skin cover of the male genitalia, aims to facilitate better hygiene for this part of the male body.
Circumcision also reduces the risk of urinary tract infections (UTI), penile cancer, and some sexually-transmitted infections. The procedure has a high success rate, with complications arising in less than 3% of cases.
The Taguig City Government is currently providing free circumcision services in its barangays. Included in the Free Circumcision Operation are free antibiotics, pain relief medication, and aftercare instructions.
This Monday, June 10, the Free Circumcision Operation is taking place in Barangay Western Bicutan. The doctors and other medical staff from the Taguig City Government will head to Barangay Rizal on June 11.
The Free Circumcision Operation will be conducted in Barangay Pitogo on June 13. On June 14, the procedure will be offered in Barangay New Lower Bicutan and Lower Bicutan. On June 15, they will visit Barangay Upper Bicutan.
Only 500 males will be accepted each day in the barangay where the procedure is being carried out, with registration beginning at 6:00 in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. Males of all ages may undergo circumcision.
A consent form that can be obtained from the barangay should be brought at the time of circumcision, along with the patient's and guardian's identification cards. Only residents scheduled for the procedure in their barangay will be allowed to be circumcised and patients are required to have eaten beforehand to prevent dizziness.
