Taguig City's exceptional work in promoting and implementing nutrition programs was recognized during the 2023 Regional Nutrition Awarding Ceremony held recently at The Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

Out of the five nutrition honor awardees in the National Capital Region (NCR), only Taguig was able to maintain high standards in its nutrition programs and services.

Taguig City received the prestigious Plaque of Recognition for its excellent management of nutrition programs aligned with the 2022 nutrition standards.

Taguig City also received another certificate of recognition for being hailed as the best Local Government Unit (LGU) in implementing the Philippine Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (PIMAM) Program. This is the result of Taguig's efforts to address malnutrition in the city.

This includes Taguig's service for cases of severe and moderate malnutrition in the city, where a referral system was established to treat those with severe nutrition problems at the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital. Rehabilitation of malnourished children also continues at the city's health centers after their hospitalization.

Mayor Lani Cayetano, Chairman of the Taguig City Nutrition Committee, was also awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for her committee's active participation which contributed to their impressive score in the 2023 Monitoring and Evaluation of Local Level Plan Implementation (MELLPI).

Also recognized were Joann Espiritu, a registered nutritionist and dietitian and City Nutrition Program Coordinator and President of City/District Nutrition Program Coordinators of Metro Manila Association Incorporated, Julita Bernabe, the City Nutrition Action Officer, and Gina Reyes, a Barangay Nutrition Scholar.

Among Taguig's outstanding nutrition programs are the Barangay Weekly Breastmilk Letting and the Dietary Supplementation Program for pregnant women at risk of not getting the right nutrition, as well as breastfeeding mothers.

Taguig also focuses on providing high-nutrition foods for infants aged six to twenty-three months, and children aged twenty-four to fifty-six months.

Taguig also held seminars related to urban gardening to enable parents to grow vegetables and serve them to their children.
