Three centenarians from Taguig City were recently handed a check for P100,000 as a cash gift from the Taguig City Government, with Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano personally presenting the checks.
Through the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) of Taguig, P100,000 cash gifts were given to Remedios Yuson of Barangay North Signal, Amadeo Paalan Timbancaya of Barangay East Rembo, and Teofila Carambas of Barangay Pembo.
The three recipients, along with other Taguig centenarians, will continue to receive P100,000 cash gifts from the Taguig City Government on their subsequent birthdays, for as long as they live.
In the meantime, other senior citizens in Taguig receive birthday cash gifts ranging from P3,000 to P10,000 depending on their age bracket, under City Ordinance No. 25 series of 2017.
Additionally, free medication for conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma; free nursing services at their residences; free wheelchairs, canes, and hearing aids are provided for Taguig's senior citizens.
The Philippine national government also provides a P100,000 tax-free cash gift to senior citizens upon reaching the age of 100, under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016, administered by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
These incentives are given to natural-born Filipinos, even those who hold dual citizenship and those residing abroad.
There are also P10,000 cash incentives for those aged 80, 85, 90, and 95, according to the same law as amended in February 2023.
