The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has lifted the P100 minimum balance requirement for radio frequency identification (RFID) accounts of motorists traveling through expressways or tollways.
As a result, motorists can now top up their toll accounts per trip. Their accounts will not be deactivated even if they reach zero balance when they are not passing through the tollway.
According to TRB Executive Director Alvin A. Carullo, there is no longer a maintaining balance for the RFID, and motorists who load exactly the amount for their specific journey passing through the tollway will be permitted to do so.
Based on the most recent data from May 2024, there are still 100,000 vehicles, or 4.8% of motorists in the country, without a toll RFID.
Out of the 95.2% who have an RFID, 3.6% are not properly loading their accounts, causing traffic delays when passing through toll plazas, according to the TRB.
Furthermore, the TRB decided to extend until 2025 the suspension of fines or penalties for motorists who either do not have an RFID or have insufficient balance when exiting the tollway. This move aims to allow toll operators to properly manage their payment or charging systems for those exiting tollways.
