Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) has intensified as it heads towards the north-western seas of the Philippines.

In the latest report from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) last night (July 22, 2024) at 10:00 PM, the center of Typhoon Carina was located 375 kilometers east-northeast of Tuguegarao City, Cagayan.

The typhoon carries winds of 130 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 160 kilometers per hour.

It is moving towards the north-west at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour. The strong winds brought by the typhoon extend to 560 kilometers from its center.

The typhoon also strengthens the monsoon, causing continued heavy rain in Luzon and Visayas.

Signal Number 1 is raised in Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cagayan, Isabela, Apayao, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, and Catanduanes.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue until Wednesday due to the monsoon in Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Zambales, Bataan and Aurora. Also affected are Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Occidental, and Northern Samar.

Typhoon Carina is estimated to make landfall in Taiwan on Wednesday (July 24) night or Thursday (July 25) morning.
