Typhoon Carina (international name: Gaemi) has now intensified into a severe tropical storm, barely moving from its location near Casiguran, Aurora.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Carina will bring heavy rainfall - exacerbated by the Habagat (southwest monsoon) - over much of Luzon.

The typhoon carries winds of approximately 95 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching up to 115 kilometers per hour.

Heavy rainfall continues until Monday evening, July 22, 2024, in the northeastern portions of Cagayan (100 - 200 mm of rain), Babuyan Islands, and in the eastern parts of Cagayan and Isabela (50-100 mm.)

From July 22 to the evening of July 23, heavy rain will also hit the Babuyan Islands and Cagayan.

Rain will continue in Taguig City and other parts of Metro Manila in the ensuing days.

Typhoon Carina will enhance the southwest monsoon, causing heavy rainfall in various parts of the western section of Luzon until Wednesday. Similarly, Northern Samar and Western Visayas will experience rainfall.

Small seafaring vessels are advised not to venture out while Typhoon Carina is in the country and enhancing the Habagat.

Typhoon Carina is expected to move north-northwest until Tuesday, before heading northwest on Wednesday. It is forecasted to exit the country by Wednesday night or Thursday morning, July 25, setting course for the East China Sea.
