After being downgraded from a super typhoon, Typhoon Carina heads for the coast of Taiwan.

According to the most recent report from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11:00 PM last night (July 24, 2024), the center of Typhoon Carina was located 335 kilometers north of Itbayat, Batanes.

Wind speeds near the center reach 175 kilometers per hour and gusts up to 215 kilometers per hour.

The typhoon is moving at a speed of 15 kilometers per hour towards the southwest.

The typhoon's range extends up to 700 kilometers from its center.

Signal Number 2 is raised in Batanes.

Signal number 1 is raised over the Babuyan Islands, the western part of mainland Cagayan (Claveria, Santa Praxedes, Sanchez-Mira, Pamplona, Abulug, Ballesteros, Aparri, Camalaniugan, Buguey, Santa Teresita, Santa Ana, Gonzaga), and the northern part of Ilocos Norte (Burgos, Bangui, Pagudpud, Dumalneg, Adams).

The likelihood that Typhoon Carina will bring heavy rainfall to the country has dwindled, but the monsoon strengthened by Typhoon Carina will still bring moderate to heavy rainfall to the western part of Luzon from now until Saturday.

Rains will continue to affect Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, eastern part of Isabela, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Occidental, and Northern Samar on July 25, 2025.

On Friday, July 26, those who will continue to experience rainfall include Metro Manila, Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, eastern part of Isabela, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.

On Saturday, July 27, rainfall will be experienced in Batanes, Ilocos Region, Zambales, Bataan, Marinduque, Romblon, Lubang Island, and Kalayaan Islands.

Typhoon Carina is expected to make landfall in Taiwan the morning of July 25 before finally exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Outside of PAR, Typhoon Carina is forecast to cross the Taiwan Strait and make its final landfall on the southeastern part of China this afternoon or evening.
