(UPDATED) Typhoon Egay (international name: Doksuri) continues to strengthen as it moves north and northwest of the country as of four in the afternoon, July 24, 2023. Its strengthening is further intensified by the monsoon winds.

It is also expected that Egay will escalate to a super typhoon category by Tuesday afternoon or evening, July 25, or Wednesday morning, July 26.

Currently, the eye of Typhoon Egay is estimated to be 500 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora. It carries winds of 155 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts up to 190 kilometers per hour and a central pressure of 955 hPa.

The movement of Egay is slow at 10 kilometers per hour towards the north, northwest of the country.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration or PAGASA, the typhoon could pass through the Luzon Strait and then possibly make landfall or come very close to parts of the Babuyan Islands - Batanes by midnight or Wednesday morning. There's also a possibility that it could make landfall in the northeastern part of Cagayan if its course changes due to the ridge of high pressure north of the typhoon.

The following areas in Luzon are currently being affected by the rain and strong winds:

Catanduanes, eastern part of Albay (Rapu-Rapu, Bacacay, City of Tabaco, Malilipot, Malinao, Tiwi), northern part of Camarines Norte (Calaguas and Maculabo Islands), eastern part of Camarines Sur (Caramoan, Presentacion, Garchitorena, Lagonoy, San Jose, Sagñay), Isabela, northern and central parts of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao), Quirino, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, central and eastern parts of Mountain Province (Paracelis, Natonin, Barlig, Sadanga, Bontoc), eastern part of Nueva Vizcaya (Kasibu, Quezon, Diadi, Bagabag), eastern part of Ifugao (Alfonso Lista, Aguinaldo, Mayoyao, Lagawe, Banaue, Hingyon, Lamut), central and eastern parts of Abra (Tineg, Lacub, Malibcong, Lagangilang, San Juan, Dolores, Lagayan, Danglas, La Paz, Daguioman, Boliney, Bucloc, Licuan-Baay, Sallapadan, Tayum, Bucay, Bangued, Peñarrubia, Manabo, Tubo), Ilocos Norte and Batanes

In Visayas, the northeastern part of Northern Samar (Laoang, Palapag) will be hit by the typhoon.

Signal number 2 has also been raised in the northeastern part of Northern Samar.

Signal number 1, on the other hand, has been raised over the following: Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Nueva Vizcaya, Quezon including Polillo islands, Aurora, Benguet, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Bulacan, Pampanga, Metro Manila, Rizal, Cavite, Laguna, Marinduque, gRomblon (Banton, Corcuera, Romblon, Magdiwang, Cajidiocan, San Fernando), and Batangas.

Signal number 1 was raised also in Eastern Samar, other parts of Northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte and northern part of Cebu.

Typhoon Egay is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility towards the Taiwan Strait and will make a landfall at Fujian, China on Wednesday evening or Thursday morning.

All small sea vessels are reminded to refrain from sailing during the typhoon particularly in the seaborders of Luzon, Visayas and eastern part of Mindanao.
