Meanwhile, Typhoon Helen (international name: Pulasan) entered the PAR last night, September 17, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The typhoon is currently 1,290 kilometers east of the tip of Northern Luzon.
Its wind strength is reported to be 85 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching up to 105 kilometers per hour. It is moving westward at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. Its strong winds extend up to 650 kilometers from its center.
Typhoon Helen is expected to intensify the Southwest Monsoon, aided by the lingering effects of Typhoon Gener. The heavy rainfall today, Wednesday, is expected to affect the following areas:
• Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, and Mindanao.
On Thursday, September 19, the heavy rainfall is expected to affect the following areas:
• Isabela, Aurora, Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, Metro Manila, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, and Western Visayas.
Typhoon Helen is expected to leave the PAR later this afternoon and will move towards the west-northwest direction. It is not expected to make landfall, according to PAGASA.
