According to last night's 10:00 pm monitoring by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), Typhoon Kong-Rey, set to be named Leon when it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), is currently 1,980 kilometers east of Central Luzon or 1,780 kilometers east of Southern Luzon. It remains outside PAR (15.5°N, 140.6°E).
The typhoon is carrying winds of 65 kilometers per hour near its center, with gusts reaching 80 kilometers per hour.
It is currently moving west-northwest at a speed of 25 kilometers per hour.
Its powerful winds will extend up to 600 kilometers from its center.
Typhoon Leon is set to enter PAR tonight, October 26, or tomorrow morning, October 27.
The typhoon is expected to head northwest on Tuesday, October 29, and move north on Wednesday, October 30, over the Philippine Sea.
According to PAGASA, Typhoon Leon is currently far from land, but its trajectory may still change.
This tropical cyclone is expected to gradually intensify and may reach severe tropical storm category by Sunday.
Rainfall will affect the peak of Northern Luzon.
Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao may also experience rain in the coming days due to the influence of the Southwesterly Windflow, which is affected by Typhoon Kristine.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Kristine exited the country yesterday at around 2:00 pm, October 25, 2024.
It is estimated to make landfall in Central Vietnam before returning east.
Upon its return, it is expected to weaken.
