Typhoon Marce (international name: Yinxing) has gained some strength as it moves north-westward over the Philippine Sea.
In the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) at 11:00 AM today, the center of Tropical Storm Marce was located 775 kilometers east of Borongan City, Eastern Samar (12.4°N, 132.5°E).
It carries winds of 75 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour, and a central pressure of 998 hPa.
Marce is moving west-northwest at 35 kilometers per hour, and its winds extend up to 580 kilometers from the center.
As Typhoon Marce advances within the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it enhances the northeasterly wind flow which causes rainfall. Extreme Northern Luzon and the eastern part of Luzon are specifically expected to experience heavy rain starting today or tomorrow, November 5, 2024.
Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 may be raised in parts of Cagayan by tomorrow, November 5.
According to PAGASA's track forecast, Typhoon Marce is possibly making landfall near the Babuyan Islands or on mainland northern Cagayan on the evening of Thursday, November 7 or early morning of Friday, November 8.
As the strength of the high pressure area north of Typhoon Marce is still uncertain, the forecast track may change and its landfall may shift to mainland Cagayan or Isabela.
Typhoon Marce could potentially reach tropical storm category by tomorrow, November 5. It is also possible to reach typhoon category by tomorrow night or early Wednesday. The storm may quickly intensify.
In light of this, PAGASA is advising the public and all those involved in disaster risk reduction and management to prepare and protect those who may be in the storm's path.
