The typhoon known as Marce (international name: Yinxing) has quickly intensified into a severe tropical storm, and its projected landfall threatens the same areas previously hit by Typhoons Kristine and Leon.
As of 4:00 PM yesterday, according to monitoring by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the center of Typhoon Marce is 715 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte (14.5°N, 129.6°E).
The storm carries winds of 100 kilometers per hour near the center, with gusts reaching 125 kilometers per hour, while its central pressure is at 985 hPa.
The storm is moving northwest at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour. Its strong winds cover an area of 600 kilometers from the center.
PAGASA has raised Signal Number 1 over the following areas in Luzon:
• Batanes,
• North and East Cagayan including Babuyan Islands
• Eastern parts of Isabela
• Northern parts of Apayao
• Northern parts of Abra
• Northern parts of Ilocos Norte
PAGASA stated that Typhoon Marce may reach the typhoon category by the evening of November 5 or the early morning of November 6.
PAGASA still predicts that Typhoon Marce will make landfall near the Babuyan Islands or mainland northern Cagayan on the evening of Thursday, November 7, or the early morning of Friday, November 8, 2024.
