Just as Typhoon Nika has moved on, another storm has entered the Philippines and is gaining strength as it moves northwest over the Philippine Sea.
According to the latest data from the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) as of 10:00 this morning, the center of Typhoon Ofel is located 950 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon (13.8°N, 133.0°E).
It is carrying maximum sustained winds of 85 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 105 kilometers per hour, with a central pressure of 996 hPa.
The typhoon is moving at a speed of 35 kilometers per hour, with its strong winds extending out 230 kilometers per hour from the center.
No wind signal has been raised yet with the entry of Typhoon Ofel into the country, but all are warned against sailing in waters.
Typhoon Ofel is expected to move in a west-northwest direction until Thursday evening, November 14, 2024, before turning northwest towards the north during its passage through the country.
Typhoon Ofel is likely to make landfall in Northern or Central Luzon on Thursday afternoon or evening.
Typhoon Ofel could strengthen further, possibly reaching typhoon category by tomorrow night, November 13, or Thursday morning.
