The United States Department of State has announced a new policy tightening visa regulations in response to the unjust detention of individuals in any part of the world.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated that this move is in response to the growing number of foreign governments unjustly incarcerating individuals.
Under the new policy, the United States may impose visa restrictions on those detaining people under false pretenses for illegitimate purposes, providing discriminatory treatment based on the detainee's nationality, or violating the detainee's fundamental freedoms, among other issues. This is outlined in the new policy regarding the US visa issuance.
Family members of those committing these unjust acts may also be affected.
Blinken emphasized that people should never be used as negotiation tools or subjected to abusive or unfair detentions.
"We remain committed to working with our global partners to advocate for the release of all individuals detained in wrongful, abusive, or unjust ways," Blinken added.
