More than 270 people with disabilities, particularly the blind, attended the Visual Disability Sensitivity Workshop held at Lakeshore Hall, Barangay Lower Bicutan, Taguig City on October 9, 2024.

The workshop aimed to better understand and support those who are blind or have visual impairments.

The city government of Taguig, through the Persons with Disabilities Affairs Office, led the event. Attendees with visual impairments were taught basic Braille - both reading and writing.

They were also trained in White Cane techniques, which are crucial for independent mobility, and sighted guide techniques to navigate with the assistance of a sighted guide.

Parents and guides of blind individuals were also educated on how best to assist them.

The Taguig city government partnered with the YAKAP Center for Children with Disabilities teachers and the Department of Education Special Education (SPED) teachers for this initiative.

Taguig Mayor Lani Cayetano stated that the city continues to support individuals with visual impairments. She affirmed that they will continuously launch programs to empower and instil self-confidence in all persons with disabilities in the city.

Following the workshop-training, the city government of Taguig distributed white canes to the participants.
