The robotics team from West Rembo Elementary School, set to represent the Philippines in a competition in Dallas, Texas, United States from April 25 to May 3, 2024, has received financial assistance from Makati Mayor Abby Binay's personal fund.
The team, composed of Grade 5 and 6 students Rio Pauline Dames, Cassandra Elyze Cruz, Andrew Lijarso and Zyric Abines, will be competing in the 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship.

They personally visited Makati City Hall to receive the aid directly from the Mayor.
"Even though West Rembo Elementary School is no longer part of Makati, I decided to help them with my personal funds so they have less to worry about and can focus on the competition. They bring pride to the nation and deserve our full support," Binay stated.
According to Binay, the Taguig City Government provided funds to the children; however, the parents expressed that it was not enough to cover the team's expenses, hence their outreach to the Makati Mayor. At the time of writing, there has been no response from the city government.
West Rembo Elementary School was formerly under the jurisdiction of Makati, but its barangay was transferred to Taguig following a Supreme Court ruling that the ten EMBO (Enlisted Men's Barrio) barangays fall within the jurisdiction of Taguig.
On Tuesday, April 23, the four members of the Makatrix Robotics Team from Makati High School, who are also set to compete in the aforementioned competition, were given P58,000 in pocket money by Makati City, in addition to their airfare and hotel accommodation being covered.
